Minotti Sunray teak outdoor sofa
Minotti Sunray is a 2020 outdoor seating system by Rodolfo Dordoni. A flat teak platform on a sled base in polished Bronze metal carries a thick seat cushion, and a curved back wrapped in flat cord closes the composition. The family around it takes in a teak armchair, the upholstered Sunray Luke bench, Sunray Meg coffee tables and the Terrace table.
Flat cord wound over a curved tubular back.
Teak deck, corded back
Sunray is modular, and its pieces work alone or together: armchair, sofa, end elements with or without an extending top, a chaise longue, a loveseat, a daybed with a reclining back, and square and rectangular coffee tables. The teak top that forms the seat base has a sloping section and tapered edges, so it looks thinner than it is. The back is a tubular frame wrapped in flat cord in Bronze and Ecru, laid in a straight linear weave. Seat cushions are deep and soft, closer to a mattress than a pad.
Teak is a sound choice for an open terrace. Its natural oils keep water out, and unoiled it fades to silver gray over time; oiling brings back the honey color. Flat cord on the back dries quickly after a shower. Fabrics come from Minotti's 2020 textile collection, which offers a wide spread of colors and textures, so one Sunray layout can read quiet or bold. The Sunray Luke bench is covered in a soft woven fabric with a raised texture and sits on a Bronze frame; it serves as a seat, a footrest or a surface.
The tables do the practical work. Sunray Meg is a set of coffee tables in several sizes and heights on a thin tubular frame in polished Bronze, with HPL laminate tops in glossy white, rust or khaki green chosen to match the outdoor fabrics. Terrace is heavier: tapered cast aluminum legs in white or pewter and a stone-effect ceramic top in stone brown or marble gray, in three sizes. The coffee table Minotti pairs with Sunray sets the mood, with Meg adding color and Terrace adding weight.
Dordoni drew Sunray to carry indoor comfort outside. It can lead a terrace on its own or sit alongside other pieces from the same outdoor collection, since the polished Bronze metal matches across the range. On a small city roof, a loveseat, the armchair and one Meg table are enough. On a larger lawn, a long run of sofa modules with an end element at each side and a Luke bench in front makes a full outdoor living room around a rug.
