Saddle hide woven by hand

Klasen works at the edges of a terrace plan, where a sofa would crowd the space. The stool comes in three heights, so the same design can pull up to a dining table, stand at a counter or line an outdoor bar. The bench adds a simple perch along a garden wall or at the foot of a pergola. Both are sized to stay compact, and they suit a small city balcony as well as a hotel pool.

The frame is metal finished in a pewter polyester paint made for exterior use. Across it, saddle-hide straps are woven by hand into the seat. The hide is treated to repel water, and its terracotta color warms up against gray stone or pale concrete paving. Leather outdoors needs some care: wipe it dry after rain and skip harsh cleaners. An optional rain cover is offered, and using it all year keeps the pieces in better shape.

Gordon Guillaumier kept the volumes quiet and put the effort into tailoring, the way a good saddle is finished.
