Minotti Quadrado modular outdoor sofa
Minotti Quadrado is a modular outdoor seating system by Marcio Kogan / Studio MK27, launched in 2018 and extended in 2019 with an armchair, a double daybed and a rectangular table. Every piece carries the same signature: teak duckboard, the slatted decking used on yachts so water runs straight through. Light Bronze metal details tie the family together.
Teak slats borrowed from the deck of a yacht.

The sofa is built from square platforms raised off the ground, each one laid out in the duckboard pattern. Cushions sit on top, held by backs and arms in a woven fiber that looks like wicker, offered in Mud or in a plain Licorice color. Ottomans and wooden tables slot in between the seats, and trays or candle holders fit wherever they are needed. The platforms come in two module sizes: the original large one for wide living areas and a more compact version added for city terraces and hotel projects.
Duckboard was designed for boat decks, where spray and rain have to leave quickly. On a terrace it does the same job. Water drains between the teak slats instead of pooling under a cushion, and the wood dries in the sun. Teak left untreated weathers from honey brown to silver gray over a season or two; an oil treatment holds the warmer tone for those who prefer it. The Light Bronze metal parts link the 2019 pieces visually and keep the look consistent across a large arrangement.
The 2019 additions widen what one system can furnish. The armchair has straight arms and a reclining back that repeats the duckboard, and it can join a Quadrado composition or stand alone. The double daybed is shaped like a niche, with teak duckboard at the back and sides around a large mattress, set on two Light Bronze crosspieces. The rectangular table puts duckboard on its top and stands on aluminum legs in a Lava Stone Powder finish, with plug-in accessories such as a candle holder and a Lava Stone tray.
Marcio Kogan meant Quadrado as a tribute to the Japanese Metabolist architects of the fifties and sixties, read through Brazilian domestic architecture. His suggestion for the table says a lot about the approach: line several up like dominoes, or arrange them in a frame around a tree trunk. Among Minotti outdoor furniture this is one of the most architectural systems, and it rewards a plan drawn in advance. Sketch the terrace and count modules before asking for a quote, and we can match the module size to the space.
